The Proper Way To Clean Gold Jewelry

When cleaning gold jewelry it can be stressful, but let me tell you it can become super easy when you get the hang of it. I will be sharing with you the proper ways to not only take care of your gold jewelry, but also the proper way to clean your gold jewelry. The main jewelry material i’m going to focus on is gold plated because it is the most delicate gold jewelry.

When it comes to the important things I've discussed in depth about proper care in my other blog post make sure you check them out HERE

Basic Tips

  • Store your jewelry after each wear

  • Wash your hands when putting on and taking off your jewelry

  • Let lotions and sprays dry before putting jewelry on

  • Avoid wearing jewelry under water for long periods of time

  • Clean jewelry twice a year

How to Clean Your Gold Plated Jewelry

The best method for cleaning gold-plated jewelry is to let it soak in warm, soapy water. First, fill a bowl with lukewarm water (be sure that the water isn't too hot), and then add a few drops of dish soap to the bowl. Mix it up to create a soapy bath, and allow your gold-plated chains to soak for 10 to 15 minutes.

Remove your jewelry from the bowl and rinse it off under warm running water until no soap is present. Before letting it dry, you should gently wipe down your jewelry with a soft polishing cloth. Then, allow to air dry. You can do this twice a year or when ever you feel your jewelry needs some cleaning.

That's pretty much it after that it's up to you to determine when your jewelry needs some good cleaning.
